Ka Huna massage is performed in 'dance like' moves, using both the forearms and hands in long flowing strokes along the body. The rhythmic strokes lull the body into a deep sense of relaxation, yet, using the forearm and elbows, quite deep therapeutic pressure can be applied as required. Used in combination with the breath, the body, mind and spirit are encouraged to heal, leaving both the giver and the receiver feeling relaxed yet alive and energized. "While our hands move with eternity, our feet are firmly entrenched in infinity and still, we remain in our integrity." --Papa Hohepa Delamere
Lomi Lomi in Hawaiian language means, 'to knead', 'to squeeze', 'to make soft' among other similar definitions. The general theory is that where there is 'softness' there is no 'tension', which is the root cause of illness. Though there are varied techniques used and philosophies taught, the same 'flow' and healing intention / prayer exists in all lomi styles of Lomi Lomi. Our therapists have done training in Ka Huna Bodywork, and Heartworks Lomi Lomi. Heated volcanic stones, pohaku, may also be included in the treatment in the same long flowing moves used in Ka Huna massage, adding to the depth of relaxation and release of muscular tension. More details about Ka Huna Bodywork can be found here. Ka Huna massage is also known as Ka Huna bodywork, kahuna massage, kahuna bodywork, temple style or lomi lomi massage. |
